Lay out your stencil numbers first to make sure they will all fit before you start adding paint. To make your board appear more rustic you can take a hand sander and rough up the edges a bit more. Add some twine to the end of your board to add a little extra flair to your board. You can add hot glue first to get your twine started before wrapping it around the end of your board. You can also hot glue some little pieces of greenery to the middle of your twine. Tips and Tricks for stenciling numbers on a wood board When it comes to using stencils there are a few little tricks that are great to know when using them for your crafts: If you are reusing a stencil twice in a project you will want to be sure to wipe off the back of the stencil with a wipe so you do not get paint that may have bleed to the back on your wood board. What a great addition to the farmhouse decor I already have around my home! For this project, I used a monogram large wooden letter. I also used scrapbook paper, mod podge, and a few other small supplies. Check out the video below to see how I created this monogram sign. Supplies You’ll Need: Large Wood Letter Farm Scrapbook paper – wood, barns, horses, wheat, corn, etc. Mod Podge Brush Squeegee Vinyl Scraper or any flat edge tool Heat Drying Gun Sanding block or nail file Black ink Sponge Paint Raffia or twine STEPS FOR YOUR FARMHOUSE MONOGRAM: Step 1: Beginning with your painted and prepped wooden letter, decide what scrapbook pages you want for your project. Mix and match pages; just have fun with it.  Step 2: Working in sections on your letter, place your scrapbook paper underneath to trace a portion. Then cut it out and set on your wooden letter.  Step 3: Grab your next scrapbook page, and trace out the next section you want to cover. Play with it to create the look you like. Step 4: Be sure to trim the outside edges of your scrapbook pages to ensure there is just a bit of wood showing through as you work.  Step 5: Continue to trace and cut farmhouse themed scrapbook pages to cover any remaining sections of your wooden letter.  Step 6: Once you have cut all of your scrapbook pages to fit and cover your wooden letter, play with placement to ensure you like your design before you mod podge in place.  Step 7: Grab your Mod Podge and brush directly on your letter in your first section you are covering with paper.   Step 8: Attach your first section of scrapbook paper. Use your squeegee vinyl scraper to remove any air bubbles and even out all of your glue, to really help seal all the edges.  Step 9: Repeat these steps with remaining scrapbook pages, overlapping sections where needed.  Step 10: Once all of your scrapbook pages are on your letter, paint Mod Podge over the top. Be sure to cover it completely, with a thin, consistent layer. Step 11: Use a heat drying tool to speed up the drying process. Step 12: With your sanding block, roughen up the edges of your letter by rubbing along the sides with some pressure. Be careful not to tear your scrapbook pages.  Step 13: Use a nail file to fit into the tiny/tight edges of your wooden letter. Step 14: Brush off excess debris with your hand. Step 15: Grab your black ink sponge paint thingy , and go along the edges of your wooden letter and any spots where your scrapbook pages meet to distress the edges and make it look cohesive.  Step 16: Grab a handful of raffia and tie it on your letter, making a bow. Trim your tails to the length you like. Hot glue in place to secure.  Give this DIY craft try. These would be the perfect gift to give for bridal showers, or as birthday presents. You can personalize each letter just for them by choosing scrapbook paper that matches their likes and styles. Just pin this Farmhouse Monogram Sign tutorial below to find the instructions later!

How to makeover a chair using a stencil

Have any old chairs around the house that need a little TLC? With some paint, stencils, and some transfer paper, you can learn how to give your chair a makeover and make it like new again! This project is a simple and easy tutorial you’ll enjoy and takes you less than 40 minutes to do! If you have some chairs that need a little love then you will want to watch this chair makeover tutorial. I know you have seen a chair that needs some love and I have several I have been needing to paint and spruce up. I am showing you today how to do a chair makeover with stencils using paint and stencil to turn your old chairs into something amazing. Stencil Design Chair Makeover This technique is quite possibly my favorite way to makeover a chair. I love using stencils especially when it comes to making wood signs. Stencils can really take the stress out of crafting by helping you create words and designs on your projects. Supplies for Red Chair: Old wooden chair (Red) Family Stencil Never Ending Story Transfer (no longer available) Leopard Transfer Any old bits and pieces of transfers you like Floral and greenery transfers Transfer applicator tool or flat edge Black paint Rag Miss Lillian’s Antiquing Glaze (Black) Redesign Decor Transfer – Ruby Rose – no longer available Supplies for Turquoise Chair: Old wooden chair (Turquoise) Blessed Stencils Redesign Decor Transfer – Fuschia Sunset Transfer applicator tool or flat edge Master’s Touch Acrylic: Raw Umber  Master’s Touch Acrylic: Warm Grey Miss Lillian’s Antiquing Glaze (Brown) Rag Steps for chair makeover with stencils: Red Chair – Step 1: Beginning with your painted and prepped wooden chair (Barn Red from Dixie Bell), decide which transfers you hope to mix and match on your chair. Play with your patterns, sizes, and images to create a fun look. We may or may not use all of them, or may not. We will decide as we get going.  Step 2: Grab your leopard transfer and shape it to fit the corner of your chair. Trim excess. Peel the white backing of your transfer and place it on your chair in the front left corner of the seat of your chair.  Step 3: Use a transfer applicator tool, or flat edge stick to apply transfer. A bubble will appear as it adheres to your wood. Once completely on your chair, rub with your hand to smooth out any air bubbles.  Step 4: Play with placement of your floral and greenery on top of your leopard print. Apply greenery  transfers using the same flat edge tool. Remember to leave space for your floral to rest on top.  Step 5: Apply your floral transfer on top of your greenery transfers. Eyeball how you think it will look best. Step 6: Next apply your Never Ending Story Script Transfer, resting on top of greenery and a small area of your floral. If it is not perfect, don’t worry.  Step 7: Grab your black paint, sponge daubers, and play with the placement of your FAMILY stencil. Holding in place, begin to dab your paint. Be sure to let it dry completely.  Step 8: Grab your rag and add a tiny portion of your antiquing glaze to it. Decide where you want it to be. I like it on the edges of the seat, the spindles, and the back of the chair. Don’t forget the legs of your chair. This will just tone down the bright paint of your chair.   Step 9: Feel free to “Grunge it up” however you like.  Step 10: If you place too much, use a baby wipe to pull the glaze back.  Step 11: Set your red chair aside to dry as you begin to work on your turquoise chair.  Turquoise Chair –  Step 1: Grab your Redesign Floral Transfers: Fuchsia Sunset. Determine which part of your transfer you want to add to your chair.  Step 2: Cut out the transfer section you like best. Be sure to cut as close as possible for your transfers and wrap on your wood where needed. Step 3: Carefully remove white paper backing and place your transfer down on the left side of the seat. Step 4: Repeat steps to apply transfer with flat edge. A bubble will appear as it adheres to your wood. Once completely on your chair, rub with your hand to smooth out any air bubbles.  Step 5: Determine and eyeball placement of your Blessed stencil.  Step 6: Apply a small section of a script transfer under where you will paint on your stencil following the steps above.  I just love how these turned out and it is so much fun using a stencil to transform a chair. Can’t wait for you to try this technique and start flipping your own furniture! Just pin this chair makeover with stencils tutorial below to find the instructions later!

Easy DIY Winter Sign

Are you ready to start decorating for the winter months? Today I am showing you how to make your own DIY winter sign in less than 20 minutes. It’s an easy and simple project that you can make as gifts to friends, loved ones, or just add it to your shop! I love the distressed look and the paint colors this sign brings to my holiday decor. This year, I was wondering what would be a cute sign that I could have up in my home through all the winter holiday months. After some brainstorming, I decided to paint a wood sign with the word SNOW on it. It is the perfect way to have cute decor that can stay up all winter long and not be to a specific holiday. It reminds me of the AMERICA wood sign I made for my entryway for the 4th of July this year! Using a piece of wood, stencils, paint, and a sander you too can make your own DIY winter sign by following along with me in this tutorial video. This DIY wood sign makes for the perfect “Christmas in July” project! Easy DIY Winter Sign To start this easy DIY wood sign craft you first need to think about where you would like to display this sign. Once you know where it will likely go this will help you determine the size of your wood blank you need to cut or which one to grab from your pile of scarps. Also, my individual stencil letters are rather large depending on the size of yours will also help determine the size your board will need to be. Keep watching and you will see how my little accident turned into a masterpiece if I do say so myself! Winter Sign Supplies Wood blank Paintbrush Black Paint Daubers Clear coat Hand sander White Paint Turquoise Paint Make Your Own Winter Snow Sign with these Instructions Step 1: To start you will want to find the right size board for your project. Once you have decided on your size you will want to give it a good sanding with your hand sander if your board is rough. Step 2: Once you prepped your board start by giving it a base color. I choose back for mine. Using a paintbrush cover your board with the paint of your choice. Step 3: After that base paint is dry you can start stenciling on your letters. If you want to speed up the drying process us a heat gun. Step 4: I was going to paint my letters white but accidentally mixed the white into some paint I already had on my plate but it turned out fabulous. If you would like the same look I did you will just need to mix white and turquoise paint together. I used my pouncer to fill in the letters of each stencil. I started at the top with the letter “S”. Step 5: Next, continue adding your letters vertically on your sign. The next letter will be “N”. Step 6: Now add the letter “O” by stenciling it on. You may have to mix more white and turquoise together and it is ok if it is not exactly the same.  Step 7: Finishing your sign off with your last letter “W” daubing the paint inside your stencil filling in your letter “W” stencil.  Step 8: To add so fun features to your sign you can take a tiny paintbrush and make little small white snowflakes all around the letters that spelled out “SNOW”. Step 9: Allow time for your letters to dry before continuing on to the next steps. Step 10: Take a hand sander and go around the edges and distress the sides of your sign. You can even go over the letters a bit to distress them but be very careful.  Step 11: Once it is all dry paint a clear coat over your sign. I prefer to use the Dixie Belle Paint brand for my clear coat. This DIY winter sign is so easy that you can make multiples to gift to friends as gifts or make to give to a secret Santa at work. You will love how it looks and even better they are such a joy to make! Just pin this Easy DIY Winter Sign tutorial below to find the instructions later!

DIY Drink Local Wood Sign

I love gifting gifts to friends when we go over for an afternoon of fun and mingling. I have a few friends that have tiki bars and outside pool areas that I thought making them a DIY drink local wood sign would be a perfect gift to give them that is fun for the next time we are invited over. With just a simple wood blank, some paint, and individual stencil letters this sign is so simple to make yourself but also looks amazing when done! What I love most about DIY wood signs is that you can customize any sign to fit the outside area you are hoping to place it. Just think about your friends and whom you wish to gift it to and I am sure there are so many different possibilities when it comes to picking the paint colors for your sign. If they are huge football fans, you can make the sign the colors of their favorite football team. Also, it never hurts to stick to what I did and do black and white. That color combo really goes with anything honestly! DIY Drink Local Wood Sign Today I am showing you exactly how to make a DIY drink local wood sign to keep for yourself or gift to a friend. I am using the same technique I used to make my DIY Family sign. Using only a blank piece of wood, stencils, and sponge daubers, and paint I promise this is truly the best way to make your own DIY signs that I promise you will love for yourself or find that it is perfect for gifting to others. Supplies to make Drink Local Wood Sign: Paintbrush Wood blank Black Paint White Paint Heat Gun Sponge Daubers Letter Stencils Instructions for this DIY Drink Local Wood Sign Start by applying a black coat of paint onto your board. Make sure it is dried before moving to the next step. If you wish to speed up the process you can use your heat gun.  Using individual letter stencils lay them out to make sure you can fit them all on your sign. Grab your pouncer and using milky white paint start dabbing your paint into the inside of your stencil. I work the inside first and then go back and touch up any places I may have missed.  With a heat gun dry each letter as you can go. That way you do not smear your paint as you add more letters to make your words Once you finish painting DRINK you are going to work backwards with your second word. To make sure you get it lined up and the word fits!  You will do each letter in the word “LOCAL” just like you did when painting “DRINK”. Go back and touch up any spots of black that need to be touched up on your wood sign that you may have missed.  After you allow it to dry you will want to seal it with a clear coat How do you stencil on wood without bleeding? It is so important to know how to stencil on wood without bleeding from your paint. I highly suggest that you go really slow when stenciling onto the wood. You will also want to use sponge daubers when placing paint it really helps you see where your paint is going and where it has been. Less is more when stenciling. It is always easier to add more paint than take away! You will just love how beautiful this turns out and like I said this will be the perfect gift to give to your friends who have an outdoor tiki bar or pool area. It just adds a little fun décor piece and is simple, cute, and fun to make! Just pin this DIY Drink Local Wood Sign tutorial below to find the instructions later!

Supplies needed: Wood blanks Patriotic Stencils Paint Mod Podge Scrapbook Paper Paintbrush Sponge Daubers Twine Steps for making DIY Patriotic Wood Signs Step 1: Paint your precut wood. For this project, I painted one black and the other piece white. Allow time for your paint to dry or use a heat gun to speed up the process. You can go back and touch up any spots you missed after you finish. Step 2: Next we will add scrapbook paper to your boards. Start by cutting your scrapbook paper equally to fit across your wood blank. For the first project, I cut mine about 6 inches in width each. The tall slender piece of wood, which I did second I used one pattern of scrapbook paper on the bottom portion and a different pattern on the top portion. You can get creative with your paper and mix up colors and patterns. There is no wrong or right way. Step 3: Using a paintbrush modge podge the top of your wood. I only do a section at a time as I will be laying the precut scrapbook paper over these sections. After you lay your scrapbook paper down take a squeegee and really press that modge podge all around. This helps make sure it reaches the corners of the paper. Repeat this for each section of your board adding your paper a section at a time. Step 4: Using a hand sander sand down all the edges of your board. This helps secure the ends of your scrapbook paper to your board and you wont have little gaps. Step 5: Layout your 4th of July stencils onto your board. Grab your finger sponge daubers, and start applying paint around the edges of your stencils. Dipping your sponger daubers in the paint color of your choice work your way around the edge of your stencil. Continue filling in the center of your stencil. I alternated red, white, and blue paint colors on different words and stars to make it more patriotic. You can do whatever you like and what looks best on top of the scrapbook paper you choose. This is where your creativity comes in! Step 6: Using a black paint dobber, finish off the edges by going all the way around with black. Be sure to go back and add black to the edges. Step 7: On your tall slender piece of wood you can add some twine. Simply just tie around at the top for some added flair. Wooden patriotic signs are not only the perfect decorations for the 4th of July but are great for any time of the year. You can display them for Memorial Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, and even all summer long really. These are perfect to show your love for America. You may even have everything you need already in your own home. This isn’t a hard thing to do trust me! You might not think you can but if I can do it you can surely can too! Follow along as I walk you through exactly how to style and set up your own Hot Cocoa Bar station. How To Set Up A Hot Cocoa Bar Using my little mini buffet as the perfect spot for my hot cocoa bar I got to work decorating. You can use anything really to make your hot cocoa bar. You could use a side table, countertop, or an old microwave table. I am sure you have the perfect place in your home if you just look around! Once I found the perfect spot I got to add all the decorations I had gathered up. On the left side, we have trees, a vintage jewelry box from the Salvation Army. A garage sale mug that I bought so long ago that I don’t even remember. On the right side is a crock pitcher that I turned to the back. I did this because the writing on there is blue and did not go with anything else.  More trees. Little brown pitcher came from a thrift store at some point.  On top of the buffet is a little white-tiered tray. Filled with a vintage red snowflake tin, little jars with red and white m&m’s, kisses, etc., plus another little sign I made, and some greenery to fill it out.  The greenery would look cute with some white spray paint on it to look like snow. I didn’t do that but might go back and change it. The vintage Christmas truck came from a thrift store. They are the perfect place to find vintage-looking items to use on these types of projects. I am always on the hunt for a good thrift store find. Once you have your decorations in place it is time to start placing your containers around that hold all the fixins. I am mostly using glass jars, but again you can use what you have. I grabbed a little bitty drawer and put a coffee mug in it. Then added a couple jars with candy canes, straws, and some napkins in there.  And there is a jar with marshmallows. I suggest adding a runner to your table if you are looking to bring a pop of color out. You don’t have to go out and buy anything fancy. I bet you’d be surprised to hear that mine is actually a scarf! Just be creative and use what you have on hand. I promise you there is no right or wrong way to make a Hot Cocoa bar. Everyone loves hot cocoa. As long as you have some mugs, cocoa mix, and a few toppings everything will be well within their souls. Make your own Wood Signs These signs for sure help add the final touches to any hot cocoa bar. They bring in cute but fun pieces to the decor. You can easily make these DIY hot cocoa signs and add your own personality or them to the signs. How To Recycle Old Windows

Do you have old windows laying around like I do and can’t decide what to do with them all! You will be glad you stopped by today because I am going to show you how to use furniture transfers to recycle old windows! Living on the farm has many perks as well as many challenges. When the new calves need to be feed that means we do not sleep as much. To me, that is a challenge. I love my sleep! The perk of living on a farm is seeing God’s beauty all around me every day as well as being married to the farmer. Another great perk is all the “old” things we have laying around for that “just in case we need it” a moment to happen! However, I am thankful for those items because I found the perfect thing from a pile in the barn that I can not wait to craft with you. I am going to teach you how to repurpose an old window. How to Recycle Old Windows for Art This is going to blow your mind. You can turn an old window into a beautifully hung portrait. The old wood on the glass window makes for the perfect frame for a beautiful furniture transfer. I just love the natural wood around the edges or you can even paint them the color of your choice. Unfortunately, the white barn transfer has very limited stock but you can find some great vintage portraits or even some nautical lighthouses to use! I found the transfer I truly LOVED. We live on a farm in a farmhouse with a barn so very fitting. The possibilities are endless when using furniture transfers to recycle old windows. You too can do this with the ones you have laying around your home or you find thrifting. Supplies Needed to Repurpose an Old Window: Old Window Frames Furniture Transfers Scissors Transfer Tool Steps: Clean the window very well with some window cleaner and a paper towel. Roll out your transfer and cut to appropriate size as well as omitting anything in the print you do not want to use. This one came in three separate pieces. Start from the bottom with the first piece. Line up the bottom and confirm that it fits the space you are trying to fill. Trim off off any edges on all sides that need a quick trim. Take the backing off the transfer slowly. Press down firmly and use a squeezy to remove any bubbles. Once pressed down and secure then pull off the top clear protective layer. Do this slowly and as you pull keep rubbing down the transfer as you pull the clear layer off. Repeat the same steps to apply the next two sections. Where to get old windows? If you do not live on a farm like me and are not blessed with tons of old farmhouse windows then you will likely find tons of windows at the following places: Antique Stores Thrift Stores Landfills Dumps Construction sites (but please ask before taking!) Ways to recycle old windows I just shared with you one amazing way to recycle old windows but the possibilities are endless. Here are a few of my favorite ways I have seen others decorate: Use it as a large photo frame or like a collage frame Add scrapbook paper to the back and use a decorative decor propped on a table. Set it in the garden and let vines grown around it. If my daugther was still small it would make the perfect bow holder with added wire. Add hooks to the wood fram for a coat hanger for an entryway There is so much you can do with an old window to add some flair and decor to your home. Remember to just be creative and do not be scared to try something new. Just pin this How To Recycle Old Windows tutorial below to find the instructions later!

How to Flip an Old Desk into a New Piece of Furniture

Upcycling an old desk was on my list for a long time! I am so excited to show you how exactly I did it and give you some desk paint ideas! Do you have an old desk that you’re not sure what to do with? Maybe you don’t even know where to start. Don’t worry, I’m here to help. In this post, I’ll teach you how I gave my old desk a makeover. So if you’re ready, let’s get started! How To Paint A Desk I had this desk for years.  It has been moved around several times in the back of my garage. We used it for several scrapbook retreats years ago, but I had forgotten all about it. I looked and looked on the buy sell trade sites to find my daughter a new one before it finally dawned on me. You will not believe it, I actually had two desks to makeover.  They were in the far back of my garage and had been for years. I had just forgotten about them. I was happy to find one that would be perfect for my daughter. You guys know I love flipping furniture and I even use stencils from time to time. If you have any old chairs around the house that need a little TLC then you will want to check out my tutorial on how to stencil makeover a chair using a stencil. I think using stencils on these desks would be amazing too. Supplies Needed to Paint A Desk: Dixie Belle Caviar  DeWalt Orbital Sander  Rust-Oleum Painters Touch 2x White Spray Paint  Old Desk Minwax Polyurethane Spray Sanding Block How to Paint a Desk Step 1: Start by prepping your old desk. To do this all you will need to do is to clean it from any dust or dirt. Step 2: Start applying your spray paint. Yes, spray paint! Let your spray paint dry and see if you would like another coat. I only did one, as I wanted the distressed look. Step 3: Distress using either sanding block or sander. Just start bruising the edges of the dresser to make it look distressed. Step 4: Use a sealant to seal the paint onto the sides of the desk. Do not seal the top yet. Step 5: Working on just the top add more paint, I did a few layers as I wanted a solid color for the top. Step 6: Seal the top with polyurethane. Step 7: To add a variation to your furniture, if you wish, you can switch between a mixture of distressing, and glazing. You can also use some swamp mud on there also.
