Old Window Home Decor Ideas

Do you have old windows just sitting around waiting to be loved and displayed? Who doesn’t, right? I have repurposed so many windows over the years! Some have multiple panes, and some have none! Some have scrapbook paper and an initial. Some are just scrapbook paper, some are just hung as they are, and some have things attached to them! There are so many things you can do with them to make them work with your décor! Let’s jump right in! Window with scrapbook paper mod podged onto the panes… When I did this window, yellow and gray were pretty big on the home décor scene. Pretty simple.  Cut the scrapbook papers to fit the panes, mod podge them on, and another coat of mod podge on top.  Cleaning up the window is the worst part! Farmer’s News For this one, basically the same as the last one.  This one was a farm theme. Case IH Another farm themed window for the Case IH lover. Random farm-themed papers cut and edged with a paint dabber and mod podged on to create this one.  I also used the paint dabber around the edge of the window. For the IH part that I glued on last…I bought it from Hobby Lobby.  I can’t remember if it was MDF or wood.  But I cut the “H” in half and cut the I straight at the top and bottom.  Painted them black, distressed, and sealed. John Deere Another popular one in our area is John Deere. Here are three examples of how I worked the John Deere theme into window décor. Initial Windows Here a couple where I used their color scheme from their home décor and added their initial. Baby Theme This is one of my favorites EVER! The client gave me all the photos, of course.  And the rest was scrapbook supplies.  Not to toot my own horn, but “toot, toot”! I don’t know how it could have turned out any better!!! Window/Jewelry Organizer Once the window was all cleaned up, I added the 4 metal pieces.  They screwed right into the wood frame of the window. They all came from Hobby Lobby. Such a fun piece!!!  All’s Forgotten For this one, I tore the papers that I chose to use and used a paint dabber around the edges.  This was for my uncle who was in a band called “All’s Forgotten”. I laid the pieces down on mod podge and then mod podged over the top of them also.  It’s probably been 6 years since I did most of these projects, so I may be a little foggy on some of the things I used, but I think I cut the letters from my Cricut. Two Window Cabinet For this one, we just built a cabinet around these two windows.  And by we, I mean my brother.  It was my idea, but I needed him to make it happen! This is just a small sampling of what you can do with old windows. I will go through more of my old pictures another time and round up some more ideas. What have you done with your old windows? What is your next window project?

Cattle Drive

Cattle.  I love them, most of the time. I will give you a little synopsis and let you watch the video. My husband, son, daughter, and I moved cattle to pasture one day last week. Did it go as planned? Ummmm, no. Did it all work out in the end? Pretty much. ? My daughter was mainly out there to try to video us.  It would have gone super easy but there was one cow that was newer, and she was a problem. She was not familiar with how we do things and apparently is not familiar with how “follow the leader” works. She did not want to go to greener pastures. ? There is some yelling in the video.  If you have cattle, you will understand.  I am pretty sure that there was some cussing also, but I think we left those parts out! Basically, it all started off well.  My husband yells “calf,” and they usually come running, expecting feed or hay.  He had a bucket of feed with him this day and would dribble out a little here and there to lure them along.  Also, keep in mind that we are recently merging our spring and fall herds. This means that we now have double the amount of cows to work with than we are used to. All in all, it worked out.  One cow left behind.  The trouble maker.  I am pretty sure I heard them say that they would be selling her.  She was just not worth the hassle. I’m sorry it wasn’t video’ ed, but I did perform some pretty awesome four-wheeler moves that did not make it into the video.  It’s nice to know that I can still get out there and do it!  It’s been a while! Anyway… I hope you enjoy a tiny glimpse into our little ‘cattle drive’ and have a moovalous day!!!?

Mother’s Day Craft Ideas

Here a just a few Mother’s Day crafts that I have made lately. When I search for Mother’s Day craft ideas or Mother’s Day DIY, I don’t really find a whole lot.  At least not a lot that inspires me. Scrap Lumber with Furniture Transfer and Stencil This one came about because I had spilled pink paint and didn’t want to waste it. I just painted the scrap wood with the pink paint, stenciled “mom” on it and added the furniture transfers and sealed it.  Easy peasy.  Nothing too fancy.  I don’t love it, lol, but it will hopefully maybe inspire you to do something similar, but better J. Grandma’s Are Moms with Lots of Frosting This one was better in my head, lol.  It turned out ok, just not quite as planned, as most of my projects do! For this one, I just found this board in my scrap pile.  It was already spray painted a pale color, but I didn’t love it, so last minute, I decided to repaint it and went with dried sage. The next thing I did was Stencil “Grandma” down the side.  And then stenciled the saying.  I have no idea where this stencil came from.  It was all one stencil, two lines.  I ended up cutting it to work with my project.  Unfortunately, it is a really cheap, thin mylar.  I may not ever use it again.  I love the font, but the quality is lacking.  All stencils are not created equal. The furniture transfer came next.  If you have been with me for a while, you have seen me use quite a few of these.  Actually, this one I have used several times.  And by that, I mean that I have used parts of it for several projects.  I am not a hoarder, lol, but I do try to keep leftovers for small projects like these. I used this particular transfer on a dresser, this project, and the project above, and I think another small project somewhere along the way! And after it was all dry I just sprayed it with sealer. “MOM” Photo Holder For this project, I wanted to use my little wooden tags to spell out mom, which meant I had to find a board wide enough to accommodate that.  Nothing in my scrap pile was speaking to me, so I went to grab the saw, but apparently, hubby had snatched it from me.  He does that, lol.  I don’t think he likes me to use it!  He always says he would like me to have all my fingers at the end of the day! So at 5 minutes until I was to go live with this project, I am looking for the saw.  Thank goodness I caught him outside and asked where the saw was!  He had it in the shop but was more than happy to come make that one cut for me! I sanded the edges and got started painting the outside edge green. Then I painted the wood tags white and mod podged on the scrapbook paper. I used E6000 glue to glue on the letters, tags, and clothespins and done. Another Photo Holder from the Leftovers For this one, I still had more leftover paint so I used it on this piece of wood.  I had these cut to make signs out of. I painted the wood pink, mod podged on the leftover scrapbook paper from the last project and glued on the clothespin and flowers. These projects could easily be modified and/or used for other themes.  You could use different colors, different papers, etc. Your options are only limited by your imagination.

Refreshing My Kitchen Walls & Décor

So I have been wanting to revampalize (yes, this is a word…just ask me?) my kitchen for quite some time now.  I was never totally in love with my color choice the last time I painted.  But I absolutely hate painting walls, so I left it.  Fast forward a few years and I am finally making time to get rid of it. If you have been with me for any length of time, you know that I am all about neutralizing the colors in my house.  Browns, white, cream, tan, taupe, black.  That about sums it up.  So I left the two walls that were brown as they were.  And repainted the other two white. I know, kinda boring, but I am loving it.  I have wanted to do this for so long now.  And slowly, it is happening. So, it’s all going along well, SLOW, but inching forward. This is another thing that I have not been in love with in our kitchen for a few years now. Don’t get me wrong.  I do love the painting. And I admire the time and talent that it took to paint it.  It is gorgeous.  It just no longer goes with ma vibe. We were on our way to go to my Dad’s wedding several years ago.  We were a little early (I used to have a terrible habit of that ?, so we decided to stop at one of our favorite junk stores.  I think it was called “The Treasure Chest” at that time.  It went through several changes, and I don’t think it is even open at all anymore. Anyway, with a little time to kill, we stopped in.  And as we are strolling through the antiques and uniques, we see this barn painting. Well, of course, there is no price on it, and I am too shy to ask for a price, but hubby isn’t.  We figured it would be pretty expensive.  But it never hurts to ask. But it wasn’t.  It was actually pretty cheap.  20 bucks!  We couldn’t believe it, so we snagged it. Annnnnd it fit perfectly where we needed it.  We have this little storage spot, and we just needed a door or something to hang over it to disguise it.  BAM!!!  We found it! So we got it home and hung and it fit perfectly!  Like it was absolutely meant to be there! So fast forward to 11ish years or so.  Still love the sign, it just doesn’t go with the direction I am taking my home décor.  But it is the perfect size, so…I decided to turn it over and make another sign on the backside. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted.  Of course I did it on a Facebook live, lol. I ended up painting the board dried sage from Dixie Belle.  I was a little worried that it would be to pale against white walls, but it is just fine. I proceeded to go through some of my farm themed stencils and started trying to figure out how to lay them out.  I used different stencils, different words from different stencils, and a cow and a windmill. I think it turned out OK!  And hubby likes it, too!  What do you think? I still have a few more things that I want to refresh before I show you the whole kitchen.  But don’t get too excited!  It’s nothing fancy, but neither are we. Talk soon!!!

We’re All In This Together

Wasn’t this a Lizzy McGuire song on Disney Channel a few years back?  Nope?  I just looked it up.  It was actually from High School Musical with Zac Efron.  Close enough.  Those are the only words I know to the song.  But every time I hear this mentioned, it plays in my head.  Anyway…that’s not exactly what I planned to talk about but apparently it has been weighing on my mind, lol. How are you doing? How are you holding up during this crazy time of lockdown, quarantine, shelter in place, homeschooling, crazy time? Are you an essential worker on the front lines? A nurse, a doctor, a cashier, a fast food worker? Are you able to keep working from home? Have you lost your job? Are you wondering IF you will lose your job? Are you home alone wondering if you will ever see anyone in person again? Are you able to spend more time with your littles? Are you able to do some home projects that you have been putting off? Are you out of toilet paper??? There are absolutely crazy, unprecedented times.  The likes I hope we never see again. How am I holding up you ask? Well…I am able to keep working.  I am not “essential” but I normally work from home so no real difference for me there. I have been doing Facebook lives almost daily since this started.  I think I actually started right before but decided to keep going to try to be a welcome distraction among all the chaos. My husband farms, so no real difference for him other than calling ahead and having parts laid out for him, for the most part. My husband and I are very fortunate. I do have some anxiety and depression issues.  And I am definitely an introvert, bordering on being a hermit, lol. Thankfully, I only had a couple days that I really, really, wanted to stay in bed and hide until this is all over. This was about a month ago.  After I had stumbled across some guy who scared the crap out of me!  He was so convincing.  Talking about survival kits and whatnot.  Note to self…NEVER watch him again. Whether he is right or crazy, I don’t need that kind of fear crammed down my throat.  I am fearful enough.  Should I be scared?  Who knows?  There are so many varying opinions. But, I chose to social distance.  I mean those are the rules, right?  For the most part, I am a rule follower.  I’m more of a rebel in the furniture painting and crafting world! People have died from Covid-19.  Lots of people.  People also die from the flu, car wrecks, plane crashes, etc. I have more questions than answers at this point.  I am just trying to abide by the rules and only physically be with my immediate family.  Who better, right? How has this time changed you, if at all? I’m just curious.  Just checking in to see how you are doing? I hear mixed opinions on when we will be “released” into the wild again.  Schools are done for this school year. Will businesses be able to open again May 1? I have no idea, but I will not be holding my breath. For now, I will keep going Live on Facebook and ordering the groceries that I can online.  Going to an actual grocery store only when I am out of too many things, and then stock up again.  Between Amazon, A Cherry on Top, and Scrapbook.com, I am still able to order craft supplies.  I wouldn’t mind hitting up some junk stores one of these days, but that can wait. I hope you are well. XO, Tammy

Stenciled Poop Signs and Pizza Paddle Map Signs

Poop Signs So, I finally get hubby to go live with me, and we made “poop” signs and pizza paddles with maps and stencils on them! For our 28th Anniversary, I finally got my hubby to come on with me and do a Facebook Live!  I have been trying to at least get him to sit in with me for one for the last year or two, and apparently, it took our anniversary to make it happen! Our first attempt did not exactly work out.  We had ordered some things to make your viewing pleasure better, lol.  The new laptop had come in, and we thought we had it figured out, but the same thing kept happening as it has in the past.  It is basically two cameras, one on me and one on the project.  And we thought the new laptop would make it work.  Wrong.  At least not yet.  The lag time between my voice and what I am actually saying is definitely not syncing!  It was way worse than those old kung fu movies where the words and mouths don’t match up!  Like the one below from Kung Pow! Enter the Fist… But we were so excited with all the equipment, and we wanted to try.  We do have technical help coming soon and hope to get it going eventually! The next hurdle…after that chaos and trying to hurry things along so Greg could get back to work, I accidentally went live inside my free group “The Flippin Community.”  Not a big deal except that I only have about 650 people in there, compared to my “Flippin Furniture” page that has over 45,000.  Facepalm here!!!! Anyway…I didn’t realize it until an hour or so later. For the first project, we did “poop” signs and hubby did awesome!  He is a natural!  Maybe because he has seen me do it a million times?  Who knows, but he rocked it! We painted the blocks of wood and dried them with the little dryer.  Then we stenciled our signs and dried again. The blocks were a little bigger than the stencil, so we placed them low to leave room at the top for twine and greenery. When finished we spray sealed them. I think Greg had one letter that smudged a little because the stencil shifted, and I just took a tiny paintbrush with the base color and touched up around it and “perfect.” So after I figured out that we had not gone live on my page, I told him we needed a redo!  And he agreed!!! So for our next project, I didn’t want to do the same thing. Pizza Paddles I chose the pizza paddles (I just happen to have a ton of them on hand). First, we traced around our paddles onto the map and cut it out. Next, we mod podged it onto our boards, hit them with the dryer a little, and then mod podged over the top and dried some more. Then we stenciled sayings on.  Greg’s saying was “Home Sweet Home,” and mine ended up being “The Road Home.”  I had wanted to do a longer saying, but it became evident rather quickly that my original saying “the world needs who you were meant to be” was not going to fit!  So I asked the viewers to give me a smaller saying, and that was what we settled on! The last two things we did was use our paint dabbers around the edges and then spray sealed the whole project! Hubby did great!  He really, really did!  And that was a good part of our 28th Wedding Anniversary! We don’t really do gifts.  We treat each other right every day of the year, so we don’t really feel the need. How do you think he did? Are you going to try either of these projects? DIY Memorial Gift

Hey Guys! This is Courtney, Tammy’s Daughter. I’m not much of a crafter or DIY’er like my mom, but I have done a project here and there for a gift. I love being able to give a gift with meaning and being able to put heart into it. Although I love giving gifts, this time, it was not a fun gift because of the meaning. My boyfriend’s father passed away at the end of last year, unexpectedly. I had decided to save a rose from this casket spray for a gift to give to his grandmother. There are many different ways to preserve flowers. The way I preserve it is to just place it in the freezer. I can’t say how long it was in the freezer, maybe a few weeks? They are very fragile, so be very careful. The shadow box I used I purchased from Hobby Lobby. I painted the shadow box black using a foam brush. Be very careful around the glass… I used scrap scrapbook paper and taped it on the outside to hopefully save it from getting paint on it. I still got some paint on the glass. No worries! Just take a razor blade against the glass, and it should peel right off. Before this next part, take the funeral program and split it down the crease breaking in half. Then came the mod podge. Paint a layer of the mod podge on the inside, then lay down the funeral program. Then spread another layer of mod podge on top of the program to ensure that it sticks. You don’t have to do this next part, but I thought it would add something. My mom had some twine lying around, so I took the twine and started wrapping around the stem of the rose. When I reached the spot where I thought it looked good, I hot glued the twine to the stem. Next, I hot glued the rose to the shadow box next to the program. I do not have a complete photo. Side Note: I did almost this exact project 5 years ago when my grandpa passed away. I made it as a gift for my grandma for Christmas… I only did the flowers wrapped in twine and glued a cross to the shadow box. Supplies **these are affiliate links. Record Cabinet Makeover

If I were keeping this piece for me, I would probably have just sealed it at this point.  I had already sanded it.  I really love the way it looked here. But, do you have any idea how much paint I have on hand? And I am a painter after all!  And it was such a cute little piece that I couldn’t wait to tackle it! And I had a new paint brand to try! So painted it would be! Like I said, it was already sanded at this point.  I cleaned it up again and put on a coat of Fusion mineral paint in the color Putty.  I love this color.  It is very similar to Dixie Belle’s Dried Sage, a favorite of mine. Fusion Paint claims that you do not need to seal it, but I have also seen other brands claim that, and I did not find that to be true.  For one thing, when I use a chalk type paint, I do not like the chalky way it feels before I seal it. I see fingerprints, and it looks dusty.  I just don’t like it. So far, I am in love with the Fusion Mineral Paint.  I love the creamy texture of it.  It goes on beautifully.  Not too thick and not too thin.  And it has a self-leveling agent that helps alleviate brush strokes. All in all, I am giving it two thumbs up! 👍👍 But I don’t think that is what this blog post was meant to be about, lol. Anyway…I used two coats of the color Putty.. Once that was dry, I used some of Miss Lillian’s Antiquing Glaze in “Truffle” and “Black Walnut.” I did a side at a time.  The louvered doors with the track were not the best time of my life, but I got through it! For each side, I used a foam brush and put on the truffle glaze first. Then I came back with the walnut glaze with a small brush and put it on top of the first glaze. And that is basically it.  That is where I stopped. It still feels a little unfinished to me because I still feel like I need to seal it, but I am going with it and leaving it! Fusion claims that it is formulated with a built-in topcoat.  I am going to take their word for it!  So far, I am in love! I actually went ahead and ordered another color.  Not sure what piece I will use it on.  I have so much other paint on hand that I SHOULD NOT be buying any more paint of any kind until I get all the other used up. Oh well, I like to try new things and this one definitely did not disappoint! Drawer Wall Hanging & Old Window Hanging

I have kept so many drawers over the years.  And thrown so many away.  They can make such cool repurposes!!! I have made pet beds, pillow storage, wall shelves, jewelry organizers, etc. I try to be more selective about which drawers I keep.  I used to keep them all, but I only have so much room, so if they have a flimsy bottom or aren’t real wood, they get kicked to the curb. ? Drawer Wall Hanging This cute little drawer happened to make the cut and got to stick around! I made this on a Facebook live one day.  I took off the hardware completely since you wouldn’t really be able to see it while it was hanging on the wall anyway, and you could place a photo or something on the top if you wanted too! The mainframe of the drawer, inside and out, I painted a very dark brown, but it does look black in the picture. The next thing I did was cut the fabric to roughly fit inside the drawer and then applied it to the drawer with mod podge. Once it was on there, I put another coat over the top of the fabric and then left it to dry overnight. When I cut the fabric, it was just a little big because, and then I think it stretched a little bit while I was working it and smoothing it out.  If you let the mod podge sit overnight, you can easily cut off the excess with a razor blade.  Just be careful not to gouge into the wood, or you may have to touch up the paint. I staged it a few different ways just to give my followers some ideas on how to make it their own. I love how it turned out, and I love the little wreath I hung in there!  Isn’t it just the cutest! This would go perfect in my house!  Would it go with your home décor? Old Window Turned Coffee Themed Wall Hanging Since I have been doing lives every day, I am definitely going through some of my stashes that have been in my way for soooooo long!  This cute little window was up against the deep freeze with several old picture frames and canvases…just waiting for its turn. Apparently, I almost used it a long time ago because it was already sanded and pretty well ready to go.  I just cleaned it up and washed the window, and it was ready. I was just this perfect little window, white and distressed and ready to shine. I couldn’t find any of my stencils on hand that would fit it perfectly, but I did find this close one.  I just didn’t use some of the borders around it. Then I used my little finger dabbers and enamel paint and went to town.  I used black for all the lettering and brown for the mug with a little bit of white for the “steam”.  Voile.  The perfect coffee themed wall hanging to go with your coffee bar! Wood Blocks/Books Sets

The next craft obsession I am onto is wood “books.”  I have so many ideas on how to decorate them and different sayings, names, dates.  Standing them up and/or displaying them lying down. But let’s just hop on into it. EASTER BOOK SET These were fun!  As with a lot of my projects, it started with a look through my scrap woodpile. I found three that would work and set about painting them Easter colors, then I distressed and glazed them. Then I used my little stamps to stamp the words on.  I think the letters are about ¼” tall.  I used StazOn ink and used the heat gun to make sure it was set before I handled them.  I would hate to have smeared them and have to start over! Once dry, I hot glued the pieces all together and tied raffia all around them into a bow and added a little greenery. So cute, don’t ya think? FARMHOUSE BOOK SET For this set, I used thicker blocks.  They were scraps from 2″ x 4″‘s. I painted two of them white and the middle on black. My daughter had just picked me up this stamp set with bigger letters the other day.  They were the perfect size for these blocks. Once I stamped “Home, Sweet, Home” on them and they were dry, I distressed them with the sanding sponge.  Next, I hot glued the three books together.  Then tied a piece of fabric around them and then some strands of raffia.  And stuck on some greenery for the final touch. Lastly, I sprayed the whole set with spray poly.  It just makes it a little easier to dust and takes away the chalky feel the paint has before it is sealed. COFFEE SWEET COFFEE This suggestion was made while I was on the live making the last set! I couldn’t get it off my mind, so I had to make it happen! I used 2″ x 4″ scraps again.  This time I painted two of them black and one of them “dried sage”. I used my new stamps again!  And I did distress the black books and used a little black paint dabber around the edges of the middle book. I wrapped the set with fabric and tucked in a little greenery held in place by hot glue. Another set done! Do you wanna see one more set??? BABY BLOCK SET If you have ever seen my Facebook lives, you know what a mess I am.  And it should come as no surprise that I spill paint, sealer, basically pretty much everything, quite often.  This time it had been pink paint.  So that is what inspired me to do the baby set. I didn’t want the paint to go to waste, so I grabbed a brush and painted some scraps! I used scrap 2″ x 4″ again.  I painted two white and one pink. I used my little stamp sets for the numbers and “baby”. The other stamps I have had for at least 15 years. I mod podged some scrapbook paper on the top and finished with pink and natural raffia and greenery. I just thought these could be cute baby shower center pieces?  Could put baby’s name, or last name, or birth year? This was my least favorite set for some reason.  Oh, well.  I still hope it inspires you to make some even cuter! How to Flip an Old Desk into a New Piece of Furniture

Upcycling an old desk was on my list for a long time! I am so excited to show you how exactly I did it and give you some desk paint ideas! Do you have an old desk that you’re not sure what to do with? Maybe you don’t even know where to start. Don’t worry, I’m here to help. In this post, I’ll teach you how I gave my old desk a makeover. So if you’re ready, let’s get started! How To Paint A Desk I had this desk for years.  It has been moved around several times in the back of my garage. We used it for several scrapbook retreats years ago, but I had forgotten all about it. I looked and looked on the buy sell trade sites to find my daughter a new one before it finally dawned on me. You will not believe it, I actually had two desks to makeover.  They were in the far back of my garage and had been for years. I had just forgotten about them. I was happy to find one that would be perfect for my daughter. You guys know I love flipping furniture and I even use stencils from time to time. If you have any old chairs around the house that need a little TLC then you will want to check out my tutorial on how to stencil makeover a chair using a stencil. I think using stencils on these desks would be amazing too. Supplies Needed to Paint A Desk: Dixie Belle Caviar  DeWalt Orbital Sander  Rust-Oleum Painters Touch 2x White Spray Paint  Old Desk Minwax Polyurethane Spray Sanding Block How to Paint a Desk Step 1: Start by prepping your old desk. To do this all you will need to do is to clean it from any dust or dirt. Step 2: Start applying your spray paint. Yes, spray paint! Let your spray paint dry and see if you would like another coat. I only did one, as I wanted the distressed look. Step 3: Distress using either sanding block or sander. Just start bruising the edges of the dresser to make it look distressed. Step 4: Use a sealant to seal the paint onto the sides of the desk. Do not seal the top yet. Step 5: Working on just the top add more paint, I did a few layers as I wanted a solid color for the top. Step 6: Seal the top with polyurethane. Step 7: To add a variation to your furniture, if you wish, you can switch between a mixture of distressing, and glazing. You can also use some swamp mud on there also. I love being able to complete quick projects in 30-45 minutes for some quick wins; however, furniture has several different stages, layers, techniques, drying times, etc.  I just want you to know that this project does take hours to complete but it is worth it. How to Flip A Desk Tips and Tricks Do you need to sand before painting? No, you do not need to sand it. It varies for me if I do or do not. Just depends on how much wear and tear the desk has. My suggestion is if it is smooth then you do not need to take the time to sand it. What kind of paint do you use when flipping furniture? You can use latex or oil-based paint in a satin or semigloss finish for painting furniture. I love working with chalk-based paint as well. However, I used spray paint on one of these desks and it turned out great. Just pin this Old Desk Makeover tutorial below to find the instructions later!

A Tale of Two Side Tables

I think this is my second and third set of these types of side tables. And yes, you guessed it, they used to be vanities. For one reason or another, the vanity as a whole was no longer working out very well. I can’t remember the exact reasons why now that they didn’t remain vanities. Vanity’s are usually a good seller, so I try to save them if at all possible. But since it made sense for them to be separated, here we go! The Blue Set In all honesty, I probably should have dropped these in the ditch. They turn out awesome, but getting there can be a battle. As you can see, they had lots of veneer issues. I’m sure they were stored in damp conditions or in a wet garage, and the moisture starts at the bottom and starts infiltrating its way up. It’s so sad. I beg of you, please don’t store furniture in a damp garage or basement, lol. For this blue set, I chose to peel off the loose veneer, and then wood putty to fill it back in. There was a lot to be puttied. Which, in turn, meant there would be lots to sand down. With waiting time for the putty to dry. Ugh. Moving on, once I had them puttied and sanded and cleaned up, I set forth painting them Bunker Hill Blue by Dixie Belle. I had asked on Facebook what color everyone wanted them to be, and blue was the winner. They even sold to someone during that post, before they even knew what color I was going with and/or how they would turn out! I love it when that happens! Someone has so much faith in you that they call dibs long before they are complete!! And of course, I told her that if she did not love how they turned out that she did not have to take them. But thankfully, she did! A couple coats of blue, and then I distressed them with my orbital sander. Now when I sanded them, the wood shows through in places. Unless there is wood putty below the paint. Which, in this case, in some areas, there was. And that meant it didn’t match the wood, so I just took some stain or glaze and on my finger and put it where I need it to be. Then I cleaned them up and sealed them with Dixie Belle’s Clear Coat in Satin. I replaced the hardware with these vintage copper knobs. They looked awesome with the distressing. They just seemed meant for each other, in my opinion. The new owner’s opinion was that she would like to have the original vintage plastic knobs, lol, but she didn’t tell me that until she picked these up. Good thing I didn’t throw them away! The Gray Set I think the only thing different besides the color choice was that I removed a lot of the veneer instead of just filling in with putty. You can watch me remove veneer with an iron here. The color is a dark gray called Prohibition Gray by Plum City Paints. I also distressed and sealed the same way as the other set. I think I have at least one, possibly two, vanity’s out in the carport. Fingers crossed they can stay together as one unit! I really, really, really do not care to tackle another project like this any time soon!
