Wood Blocks/Books Sets

The next craft obsession I am onto is wood “books.”  I have so many ideas on how to decorate them and different sayings, names, dates.  Standing them up and/or displaying them lying down. But let’s just hop on into it.

EASTER BOOK SET

These were fun!  As with a lot of my projects, it started with a look through my scrap woodpile. I found three that would work and set about painting them Easter colors, then I distressed and glazed them.

Then I used my little stamps to stamp the words on.  I think the letters are about ¼” tall.  I used StazOn ink and used the heat gun to make sure it was set before I handled them.  I would hate to have smeared them and have to start over!

Once dry, I hot glued the pieces all together and tied raffia all around them into a bow and added a little greenery. So cute, don’t ya think?

FARMHOUSE BOOK SET

For this set, I used thicker blocks.  They were scraps from 2″ x 4″‘s.

I painted two of them white and the middle on black.

My daughter had just picked me up this stamp set with bigger letters the other day.  They were the perfect size for these blocks. Once I stamped “Home, Sweet, Home” on them and they were dry, I distressed them with the sanding sponge.

Next, I hot glued the three books together.  Then tied a piece of fabric around them and then some strands of raffia.  And stuck on some greenery for the final touch.

Lastly, I sprayed the whole set with spray poly.  It just makes it a little easier to dust and takes away the chalky feel the paint has before it is sealed.

COFFEE SWEET COFFEE

This suggestion was made while I was on the live making the last set!

I couldn’t get it off my mind, so I had to make it happen! I used 2″ x 4″ scraps again.

This time I painted two of them black and one of them “dried sage”. I used my new stamps again!

And I did distress the black books and used a little black paint dabber around the edges of the middle book.

I wrapped the set with fabric and tucked in a little greenery held in place by hot glue.

Another set done!

Do you wanna see one more set???

BABY BLOCK SET

If you have ever seen my Facebook lives, you know what a mess I am.  And it should come as no surprise that I spill paint, sealer, basically pretty much everything, quite often.  This time it had been pink paint.  So that is what inspired me to do the baby set. I didn’t want the paint to go to waste, so I grabbed a brush and painted some scraps!

I used scrap 2″ x 4″ again.  I painted two white and one pink.

I used my little stamp sets for the numbers and “baby”. The other stamps I have had for at least 15 years.

I mod podged some scrapbook paper on the top and finished with pink and natural raffia and greenery.

I just thought these could be cute baby shower center pieces?  Could put baby’s name, or last name, or birth year?

This was my least favorite set for some reason.

Oh, well.  I still hope it inspires you to make some even cuter!
