Maurices… I’m STILL Obsessed.

I cannot tell you the last time I went thrifting before this little unplanned adventure!

I knew the day before that my hubby and son would be gone for lunch the next day. I also knew that I needed to take a load of Spring and Easter decor over to Macomb to my friend’s store, All In Vinyl and Boutique.

I love to be home to cook for my guys for lunch (well…I enjoy spending time with them over the lunch hour, not so much the cooking and clean up part). But knowing they would be gone the next day, I decided to get my SUV loaded up to head the next day.

As we are getting ready to leave, my daughter asks if we can go to Maurices while we are there. I knew she would ask! Maurices is quite possibly my favorite clothing store and has been since I was in High School. I always find way too much that I like there. If I had to guess, I would imagine that 80% of my wardrobe is from there. I might have an addiction!

If you read my last blog post, you know that I have an overabundance of clothes at this point and have sworn off buying any more for a lonnnngggg time. But my daughter asked, and she has a wedding to go to this weekend, so I had to take her, right? And I did have two pairs of jeans to return so I could do that, too. Win, win.

So…we go to Macomb and deliver all the goods. And grab Mexican for lunch and then we go to Maurices. I need to back up a little. First thing in the morning, as I am checking emails and answering questions…Maurices is at it. Sending me emails. Ads to the right of my emails. Ads in my Facebook feed.

I had told myself to steer clear as much as possible. Try not to look. Well, it caught my eye. It was kind of a black cheetah print top under this unique blue color cardigan. I thought surely I have something close enough that would cure me of needing it. I tried to forget it.

Back to entering Maurices.

I march in with the intention of returning my jeans and MAYBE getting something else for about the same amount.
A couple of things derailed this thought process. One…my daughter wanted to try on. UGH.

It is the rarest of times that I will try on in the store. I get hot.

I sweat. The clothes want to stick to me, and it’s just not a good time. I would much rather take them home and return later if need be.

The second problem…they had so much new spring attire! Bright colors! New strappy cami’s that the sales girl told me that she loves and wears with almost everything! And florals galore!!!

So, while my daughter is taking forever, I’m trying to look but not look. Know what I mean? If I don’t look directly at the clothes, we won’t be magnetized together kind of thing? Chatting with the salesgirl, in my mind, I’m thinking, “ok, I liked that combo I saw online this morning.” I bet I can get that for less than the cost of what I am returning.

I describe the shirt and cardi set to the salesgirl. Not well enough, though. I finally found one of them in the store and had to look online to show her the other one.

They have it too! But only in Navy Large. Would I like them to order it for me? I sure would, but I have no idea when I would make it back to Macomb, and I can order it from home since it was already in my cart, lol. “We can ship it to your house for free if you would like? It is $10 off of $50 today”. CRAP. You now I would like that very much.

Ok, let get the one that’s here and order the other one so I can get the discount.

Daughter still trying on…me still wandering with my side-eye. I didn’t even realize until it was out of my mouth, “is it $20 of off $100 then?”
Stop it. It was $30 off of $100. I wait with bated breath to find out if she is going to tell me that it is $50 off of $150. Sure enough, it is! I have no shame at this point. Challenge accepted.

All bets were off. I put some things on the counter and had her order a total of three items that will be here in a few days. I’m not proud. At all. Hopefully, publicly shaming myself will help someone else be stronger! I did only end up spending about $78.

When I got home and realized my husband and son bought two bulls, I didn’t feel quite as bad!

More on this shopping shame and the rest of our day in the next post!

See you there!
